.D-Link already had many Wi-Fi-camera products. For a better smart home experience, we wanted to create one with a brand-new concept and idea for target users in U.S.A.
.People use Wi-Fi cameras for home security, but sometimes they would also feel unsafe being monitored. We wanted to reduce the unsafe feeling, to make the camera not be seen obviously.
Concept
Light switches are essential devices in every space of the house, so we decided to combine the light switch with smart home features: camera and sensors including temperature, humidity, sound and motion.
.Our target users in U.S.A. could also enjoy the handy installation of Komfy.
.For a more comfortable home experience, we named it Komfy.
Team Members
Product Owner x 1 Hardware Engineer x 1 Software Engineer x 1 (iOS) Designer x 1 (Me)
Roles & Responsibilities
Hardware Brainstormed with members to figure out pain points as a Wi-Fi camera user. Defined MVP with members – smart switch. Software Created an app for users of Komfy, allowing them to control their IoT product remotely via this app. The main features are switch (turn on/off light), camera viewing and recording, detecting sound, motion, temperature and humidity. .Made wireframes and user flows .Defined tone and manner, designed logo, icons and mascots (dog and firefly) .Created high fidelity mockups .Tested prototype made by the engineer, made a QA checklist and modified UI design
Achievement
.Participated in both software and hardware creation. It’s really a special experience for a product designer. .More than 5,000 switches sold in U.S.A. in 2015.
